The EXECUTIVE DIPLOMA IN COMPUTERISED ACCOUNTING

There has been an outcry in commerce and industry that the Accounting & Finance graduates are failing to perform because they lack the practical skills required to perform their duties especially in Problem solving, Analytical thinking and Application and use of Computerised systems designed for Financial Management.

The ZICA QUALIFICATION, a 1 Year post-grad program is designed to eliminate the above skills gap.  The Course Structure consists of 13 Modules and a Case Study divided into 4 Levels as shown on the Course structure given below.

MINIMUM ENTRY REQUIREMENTS

This is a post graduate qualification meant for holders of  post A Level related Tertiary Qualifications - undergraduate Degrees, Professional qualifications like ACCA, CIMA, CGI (CIS), SAAA, IAC, CPA, HEXCO Higher National Diploma etc. However, holders of At Least 2 A Level Passes can be enrolled and take up the Bridging Modules first.

THE COURSE STRUCTURE

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL 1

ACC101 - THEORY OF FINANCIAL ACCOUNTING 

Introduces students to the world of accounting and assumes no prior knowledge of the subject area. Fundamental Accounting concepts and principles will be taught, as well as to develop the capability to perform the basic accounting functions: the recognition, valuation, measurement and recording of the most common business transactions.

ACA102 -ACCOUNTING WITH COMPUTER APPLICATIONS
QUICKBOOKS ACCOUNTING

In this course, students learn the practical procedures and techniques of using QuickBooks computerized accounting software to record financial transactions and produce financial reports. This class focuses on the practices and procedures of routinely recording data in ledgers and journals. Modules like the Multicurrency, Inventory Management, Batch Processing etc will be dealt with in detail. Custom Reporting in QuickBooks will be covered too.

SFM103 - SPREADSHEETS & FINANCIAL MODELING - Basic to Advanced Microsoft Excel 

In this course, students learn how to make use of the Advanced Excel as a Financial Modelling and Data analytics tool in Finance, Accounting, and general Business administration. Advanced Excel Functions and formulas like Lookups, Financial, Logical, Date, Math, Statistical, Pivoting, Text, etc are extensively taught.

Financial Models required for Business Valuation, Mergers, Expansion etc. like the 3 Statement Model, DCF Model etc. will be introduced.

POS103 - POS & RETAIL MANAGEMENT SOLUTIONS

This Course equips students with the necessary skills required to manage Retail business with the aid of Point of Sales Systems for improved productivity and profitability. Inventory Management, Purchasing, Selling Processes, Promotions, Multi-pricing, Day-end Procedures etc will be discussed in detail. Different Industries will be covered: Retail POS, Fast Foods POS, Hospitality POS, Pharmacy POS etc. 

BA105 - BUSINESS ADMINISTRATION

At the end of this module, the student should be able to; 

  • Understanding the nature and scope of a business environment
  • Integrate the key business functional areas
  • Demonstrate knowledge of the strategic management process.
  • Demonstrate effective oral and written communication skills.
  • Understanding how Economic environment affects business performance.
  • Demonstrate knowledge of Online Digital Marketing 

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL 2

TLP201 - ZIMBABWEAN TAX LAW & TAX MANAGEMENT

This course equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to apply the Zimbabwean Tax Law, Tax computations, Advisory and Tax Filling. Individual & Corporate Income Tax, VAT, Capital gains tax, Capital Allowances, etc are taught in detail as required by the Zimbabwean Tax Authority (ZIMRA). Accounting for tax in the books of Accounts is also covered. The use of the ZIMRA Online Tax filling like the recently introduced TaRMS Self-Service Portal will be covered.

ACA202 -ACCOUNTING WITH COMPUTER APPLICATIONS 2-Sage Pastel Partner Accounting 

In this course, students learn the practical procedures and techniques of using Sage Pastel Partner computerized accounting software to record financial transactions and produce financial reports. This class focuses on the practices and procedures of routinely recording data in ledgers and journals. Modules like the Multi-currency, Batch Processing, receipting module, etc will be dealt with in detail.

ICA203 - INTERNAL CONTROLS & FORENSIC SYSTEM AUDIT

This course teaches students the steps in developing integrated internal control systems to promote organisational efficiency. The concepts of Accounting Standard Procedure will be discussed in detail. Skills to interpret various computerised fraudulent activities at the workplace are covered with Forensic Audit on Computerised Accounting systems being emphasized.

HPA204 - PAYROLL MANAGEMENT 1-Payview Payroll 

The module trains students how to administer payrolls in terms of Zimbabwe Statutory requirements and best payroll practice. Payview Computerised Payroll Applications will be trained. At the end of this module, student should be able to perform all payroll management functions of an organization in Payview Payroll.

CPA504 - PAYROLL MANAGEMENT 2- (Elective Module) Belina Payroll

The module trains students how to administer payrolls in terms of Zimbabwe Statutory requirements and best payroll practice. Belina Payroll Applications will be trained. At the end of this module, student should be able to perform all payroll management functions of an organization in Belina Payroll.

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL 3

FRP301 - ADVANCED FINANCIAL REPORTING PROCEDURES

This important module will put to light practically the activities performed at the end of the financial period that ensure all transactions and events have been recorded, all transactions and account balances have been recognised & measured appropriately, and that the following financial statements are prepared properly;

 

  • Statement of Profit / Loss & Other Comprehensive Income
  • Statement of Financial Position
  • Statement of Changes in Equity
  • Statements of Cashflows
  • Notes to the Financial Statements

The Accounting framework, IAS and IFRS are emphasized & applied  

ACA302 - ENTERPRISE RESOURSE PLANNING 1-Sage Evolution

This course introduces students to the aspects of bringing the business operating environment together. An Enterprise Resource Planning system gives corporates the ability to control the business financial situation as well as the relationships with its various stakeholders like customers, suppliers, employees, lenders etc. This course goes beyond the general recording of financial data to Business Resource Planning and management with ERP Modules like CRM, Advance Inventory Mgt, Warehousing, Manufacturing, Retailing, Asset Manager etc discussed.

This Course focuses mainly on Big Established Enterprises.  

SMA303 - STRATEGIC MANAGEMENT ACCOUNTING  

In this class students learn to apply internal management practices based on Profit Margins, costs, Cashflows, Capital Expenditures, Statement Analysis, Asset Valuation, Costing, etc. as well as the ability to prepare Management Reports, Board packs, etc.

FIT 304 - FINANCIAL INFORMATION TECHNOLOGY

This Module is designed to equip students a sound knowledge of Information technology as required in today’s computer age. Today, financial transactions involve the exchange of information through developed electronic networks. Basic IT concepts will be discussed. Complex Financial Information Systems will also be dealt with – Accounting System implementation, Computer Networking, Multi-Store Communication configuration, Cloud Accounting, VAT Fiscalisation, Database Management, Financial Integration, etc. will be covered in detail. 

FID305 - FINANCIAL DATA ANALYTICS (Elective Module) Power BI

This Module introduces students to the process of inspecting, cleansing, transforming, and modeling data with the goal of discovering useful information, informing conclusions, and supporting decision-making. 

Students will be taught how Microsoft Power Business Intelligence (Power BI) can be used as a Financial Data Analytics tool in Business. Tools like the Power BI Desktop will be covered in Detail.

PROFESSIONAL LEVEL 4

CS401 - EXPERIMENTAL CASE STUDY 

The case study is a practically oriented detailed study on a selected Computerised Accounting subject which should be submitted in partial fulfillment of the requirements for the ZICA Executive Diploma in Computerised Accounting Qualification. 

 

The study is aimed at equipping the researcher with skills and deep knowledge on the selected specialized area of study.  The study is required to analyse a reallife business management situation where existing problems need to be solved. It should relate the theory to a practical situation; for example, apply the skills and knowledge learnt in class to the practical situation at hand in the case study.
